Interpretation Centre of the Watchtowers of the Huerta
A cultural, tourist and educational resource that opens to the public, for the first time, the memory of Spain's most singular defensive heritage complex.

Torre Sarrió and its attached house have been transformed into an exhibition space that combines heritage narrative and immersive resources: interpretive panels, life-size sculptures, video-mapping and sound effects introduce the visitor to the life of the huerta and the drama of the Mediterranean corso.
The museography is by Rocamora Diseño y Arquitectura, with content prepared by the City Culture Department, MARQ and the MARQ Foundation. Technical execution is by Amazing Up — Ingeniería Interactiva del Ocio. The previous rehabilitation of the building was completed in 2021.

The fear of the huerta
This sculptural scene —a farming woman embracing her daughter as they take shelter in the tower— condenses the drama experienced by the people of Alicante's huerta during the most turbulent moments of the Mediterranean corso. When the bell rang or the beacons were lit, families ran to the towers seeking shelter from the Barbary raids.
The piece is part of the first-floor museographic route and reminds us that these fortifications were not only military architecture: above all, they were a refuge for the daily life of farmers, women and children.
Opening of the centre
On 8 July 2026 Torre Sarrió opened its doors as the Interpretation Centre of the Watchtowers of the Huerta. Relive the opening ceremony.
